ADHD Assessment for Adults – Step by Step Toward Greater Clarity
Many adults who suspect they may have ADHD have experienced significant difficulties in their daily lives over a long period of time. These often include problems with attention, inner restlessness, impulse control, or organizing everyday life, which may have persisted for many years. Sometimes these symptoms are accompanied by the feeling of having to put in more effort than others just to manage daily demands.
An ADHD assessment in adulthood can be relieving. It offers the opportunity to understand long-standing difficulties in a new way and to view them in the context of a neurobiological condition rather than as a personal “failure.”
In our practice, the diagnostic process is carried out in several stages. It begins with a comprehensive clinical interview, during which current symptoms, biographical aspects, as well as educational, professional, and psychosocial experiences are explored. Particular attention is given to ADHD-typical patterns across the lifespan.
This is followed by the use of standardized questionnaires and structured diagnostic interviews. If necessary, psychological testing is also conducted to rule out other possible causes of concentration or performance difficulties.
An important component is also the collection of third-party information, where (if possible) a close person provides observations about childhood or current daily functioning. Existing school reports or work evaluations may also be included in the assessment.
At the end of the diagnostic process, a detailed feedback session takes place. The results are summarized and discussed together. In addition to the diagnostic evaluation, the implications for future steps are addressed. The goal is for the results not only to be understood but also to be used constructively. Finally, individual treatment options and recommendations are outlined.
Currently, we offer ADHD diagnostic assessments in German.
